Violent Conflicts Through Media and Politics

 This weeks blog is going to be a little different then what I have been posting about. I had the privilege of sitting in on the Secretary of the Navy, Carlos Del Toro's speech that he held at Georgia Tech for the NROTC and GTRI programs. Most of what I have been posting about has covered current military involvement that is going on from the US across the world. The Secretary of the Navy is appointed by the current sitting president and handles all affairs that relate to the Navy and the Marine Corps. I have been covering a good deal of naval operations we have been seeing recently and how they relate to global conflict and the political spectrum. By listening to his lecture I got first hand information from the source of what the US opinions are in regards to global threats.  A common theme of my blog has been covering the Israel and Palestine conflict. Not surprisingly there has been major developments made with the amount of aid the United States is providing to Israel with now a new shift in the direction of what possible US involvement will be in the region.      Last week the US sent an advanced missile defense system in response to an increase in rocket attacks Israel has been bombarded with from Iran. While the US has already provided Israel with technology and defense systems such as their "Iron Dome" this time the system comes with 100 US troops to operate it. These are the first American troops that have been deployed to the region directly sense its outbreak in 2023.  President Biden has stressed that this system is strictly focused on defense of Israel, however Israeli officials have been discussing a major counterattack in response to the increase in hostility from Iran and Lebanon.     There has yet...

 China recently started ramping up war games near Taiwan saying it was a warning to the "separatist acts of Taiwan independence forces". While China intruding on Taiwan's territory is nothing new, these specific targeted training exercises have Taiwanese government officials in a high state of alert. China has been known to be unpredictable at times with their military operations when they want to send messages like in 2022 shortly after then-U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan, China fired missiles over the island.  In response to this Taiwan has launched their own forces in the region as a readiness and response to these actions posting a statement that they dispatched appropriate forces to respond accordingly to protect freedom and democracy, and defend the sovereignty.  Iran recently launched battery of ballistic missiles into Israel which added gasoline to the already waging war in the region.  This attack came after the Israel assassinated the Hezbollah chief  Hassan Nasrallah and began their ground invasion of Lebanon. While the terrorist organizations Hezbollah and Hamas have been backed by Iran with resources this is the first major direct action from Iran with this attack. The US has advised Israel that they can only respond to this attack proportionally urging them not to attack Iran's nuclear facility's.  President Biden continues his stance of containment of this conflict, which has resulted in troop escalation and military presence in the region to be strengthened.  After the development of the atomic bomb in the mid 1940s the way the world viewed war would change forever. Shortly after the usage of the bombs there was a race of other countries trying to develop this kind of technology. During the Cold War th e US and Russia entered an arms race of mutually assured destruction and there was an estimated 70,300 active bombs in 1986. There has been a series of treaties between the two countries which brings the global total today down to just under 4000, but there are new players on the map. There are currently nine countries who have nuclear capability's; USA, Russia, China, UK, France, India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea. The biggest question on the worlds mind is if any country is actually crazy enough to start a nuclear war? Depending on what news source you read, you will get mixed answers.  Tensions between Israel and Lebanon based terrorist organization Hezbollah are rapidly growing days after the Pager and Walkie talkie explosions that took the lives of at least 40 people have been killed with thousands more being injured. In response to these attacks Hezbollah launched their own rocket barrage and vowed to start an "open-ended battle of reckoning". As of now Israels government has stated that they are ready to take new steps against Hezbollah, as the rest of the world watches anxiously.  President Biden released an official statement saying “We’re going to do everything we can to keep a wider war from breaking out.”. This comes on top of the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin making his formal statement that diplomatic solutions are being negotiated between the two parties.  Neither war no media is a new concept to humanity. War has always been followed and recorded by people all throughout history, however as technology advanced and the reasons for war became more gray than black and white the attitude towards it has drastically changed. In WWII there was a very close following of the war on the home front in the United States with a very positive support from the citizens. News articles from that time period often featured artistic propaganda that painted the picture of "Good vs Evil" to help encourage the American home front to keep doing everything in their power to help aid the fight in during the war.    As technology advanced the next big war on Americans mind was Vietnam, however this time there was a much different feeling towards the war.
